Landmark Health Solutions, a long-term care management and consulting
firm, is pleased to announce that a nursing home they manage, University
Commons Nursing Care Center in Worcester, MA, has been found deficiency
free as per a Department of Public Health (DPH) inspection that
took place in August. Only one in five Massachusetts nursing homes hold
this distinction. The facility is owned by UMass Memorial Healthcare.
University
Commons is a ten-year-old, 164-bed facility providing skilled, sub-acute
and long-term care. It is located adjacent to the University Campus
of UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA.
In 2002,
UMass Memorial President and CEO John G. OBrien turned to Landmarkwhose
specialty is the turnaround of elder care facilitiesfor solutions.
The two signed a three-year contract. Changes included a new management
team, with James Divver as Administrator and Melissa Weinand as Director
of Nursing Services. As evidenced by the recent DPH report, major progress
was made within a short time. The future looks bright for University
Commons, said Mr. OBrien. We had confidence in Landmark
based upon their success with other institutions, and they came through
for us with flying colors. We look forward to continued work with them,
toward our desired goal of making University Commons one of the best
nursing care centers in the state. With their invaluable contributions,
we have a solid base from which to implement upgrades and improvements
that will enhance the quality of patient carenow and into the
future. UMass is strongly committed to achieving and maintaining
this goal.
Administrator
James Divver added, Working with this management team has been
a valuable experience. With their guidance, and with the expertise of
Melissa Weinand, our Director of Nursing, and our dedicated employees,
we have a deficiency-free status and the ability to make further progress.
The exciting possibilities for University Commons have energized our
staff, who are more determined than ever to achieve excellence. This
year is our 10th anniversary, and there is much to celebrate.
